Proven Science Behind Living a Longer, Healthier, More Impactful Life

THE PROBLEM

What if your doctor is waiting for you to get sick?

Why are you exhausted all the time? Why is your memory slipping?
Why do you feel burned out, foggy, and off when your labs say you’re “fine”?

The truth is: your brain and body are aging faster than you think, and the medical system isn’t designed to stop it. In fact, it’s built to treat disease, not prevent it. Sadly, too often, by the time your symptoms show up, it’s already late in the game.

That’s why this book exists. The Incredible Brain: Proven Science Behind Living a Longer, Healthier, More Impactful Life is both your wake-up call and your action plan. Written by board-certified neurologist and Navy veteran Ryan Williamson, M.D., this book delivers the cutting-edge science your doctor doesn’t have time to explain—and a proactive strategy to reclaim your energy, protect your mind, and extend your life.

This isn’t about fear. It’s about power.

TESTIMONIALS

Readers are saying
Einstein said "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” The future of healthcare is turning towards prevention to preserve health rather than attempting to fix problems later in their course. Dr Williamson has taken a very important topic BRAIN HEALTH and made this very complex goal simple enough for the reader to start this important process.

Benjamin Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." When it comes to health, few people and their insurance companies are willing to pay for that prevention (with either money or effort), which is unfortunate, because it is often dramatically cheaper than treating the subsequent diseases, if they can be treated at all. Thus we have a "disease care system" rather than a "health care system." We all want a long life with compressed morbidity.

That is to say, we want to be healthy for our entire lives until the very end. Nobody wants ten years of dementia before they pass. Nobody wants to be disabled for decades. Real health care, i.e. prevention, doesn't just give you more years, it makes the years you have better. Following Dr. Williamson's advice in this book will teach you how to delay and even completely avoid many health conditions you never want to have. Prevention is often simple, but rarely easy. Use this guide to help make it as easy as possible.

An absolutely compelling read. Dr. Williamson does a masterful job of providing his readers the tools on how to live purposefully and take control of their health. Speaking from experience as a former patient, Dr. Williamson takes a whole-body approach to medicine, seeking to understand the interconnectedness of all aspects of his patients’ health. Using some of the latest research and data, Dr. Williamson compiles a menu of options on how to live longer with a healthy brain, body and mind.

“It is more important to know the patient that has the disease than it is to know the disease the patient has” - Sir William

Osler When I graduated from medical school in 1975, I felt like the focus at that time was disease-based medicine. There was much more emphasis on making the right diagnosis than there was on preventive approaches to treating patients. The “interesting patient” was the “enlarged liver” in room 1, the thyroid nodule in Room 6, or the “Fever of unknown origin” in Room 12. Perhaps that’s why I chose to be a family physician because I enjoyed getting to know patients and having a relationship with them over time.

In the last 25 years there has been a revolution in medical education in medical schools with earlier exposure to simulated or actual clinical patients, more integration of basic and clinical science concepts throughout the curriculum, and more focus on “patient centered care”, emphasizing patient autonomy, collaboration, and respect for individual preferences. The Florida State University College of Medicine, founded in 2000, was the first new medical school created in the US since the late 1970’s. It was founded to address a looming physician shortage, most acute in rural and underserved areas, and met resistance from organized medicine (AMA and AAMC) that felt that we had enough doctors.

FSU‘s vision was validated by the year 2007, when there was a call for a significant increase in medical graduates and led to a boom in creating over 30 new medical schools since that time. FSU further defied the conventional wisdom by training their graduates in community physician offices and hospitals, with the hope to encourage the graduates to practice in those communities in the future outside of the
